I walked into my H.O.D’s office with mixed feeling. He had sent for me but not without emphasis on how urgent it was. I walked into his office with my eyes meeting his and looking down at his hand, I saw him motion to me to sit down. “You have more responsibilities on your table now and I must say I’m proud of you but let me just remind you that your CGPA must not drop. If it does, I’m immediately writing a letter to the school authority to relief you of your position and also I will be highly disappointed in you” These were the words that came from the mouth of one I respect so much.  These words felt very important to me but I just knew that wasn’t my main motivation; I felt like that was an extrinsic motivation not intrinsic and one thing that I have come to realize with me is that the intrinsic works better than the extrinsic! Can I point out something you missed out there…know what works for you!

I laughed as I walked out of My H.O.D’s office not because I felt he said something funny but because I had an urge within, I DIDN’T WANT MY STORY TO DEFINE MY GLORY! I couldn’t deny the fact that the story was going to be part of the glory but I never wanted the glory to be tampered with. Let me give you a quick background to the story so you will understand.

I had a 2.70 GP at the end of first semester of my first year in the University. Though I was the one with the highest result in my room, I soon felt it was nothing after scolding from my “African Parents”. At this point of my life, I was bent on being a first class student no matter what I had to sacrifice to get there… I did burn the midnight candle (or let me say lamp) and ever since, I had all A’s or maybe at some instances B’s. Despite the fact I had responsibilities, I knew what I had inside of me was big enough to swallow whatever had to be swallowed outside. I had failed once and though I couldn’t erase that part of the story I was ready to write the Glory I wanted.

You are your own motivation, you are your own drive, you own your lane and though you might not have been able to write the story that happened… You have the pen in your hand right now! Make the Glory worth the story!

This was a major drive for me whether or not my H.O.D had called me to his office that day! Not only did I do well that semester, I had 7A’s and 1B which made me the leading student in class for that semester. Know what you want, run with what you want, let what you want drive you and I can bet that you’ll get what you want.
